Richard and Mary's first child was Edward Mulcaster. His name first appears in the Christening records of Irthington Parish for the year 1805.(3)
"March 11th - Edward, son of Richard Mulcaster, schoolmaster of Lane End, and Mary, (late Bell)".
Richard and Mary's second child was George Mulcaster and recorded in the Irthington Parish Christening entries for the year 1806.(4)
"December 7th - George, son of Richard Mulcaster, Schoolmaster, at Lane End and Mary, (late Bell)".
The next entry in the Parish records for 1807 concerning this family is regarding Mary Bell's death only 6 weeks after the birth of her second child and at the age of 22.(5)
"Mary, wife of Richard Mulcaster, Schoolmaster, age 22 on January 19th.

"September 25th, 1816 - George, son of Richard & Margaret of Irthington, labourer. Ceremony performed by John Tapping."
The story as told to me by my father in law Arnold Mulcaster who passed away in 1998, is that both of Edward's parents had died before he came in Canada when he was 23 years old. (1828). His mother had died when he was less than two years old and his father must have died before 1828. But he appears to have had a second family in England. A stepmother, Margaret Cousin and two half sisters and 2 half brothers. The youngest of Edward's half brothers was named George after Richard and Mary's second son who died at just over 6 months of age. Edward must have been important to this young George as Edward was 11 years older than him and George was only 12 when the oldest brother left for Canada, never to return. George married Hannah Henderson and names his first son Edward Henderson Mulcaster, born December 1, 1850. Edward Henderson Mulcaster sailed to Canada in 1885 on the HMS Montreal and landing at the Port of Halifax.
From Halifax he made his way to Wisconsin where he met and married his wife, Gertrude B. Bensley He would never see his uncle or cousins in Canada.
